5 things you should know about PlantFusion
As a masters endurance athlete who has completed more than 25 marathons and ultra marathons, I require more protein than most other people my age. In May, I completed my first 100K at the Ultra Race of Champions (UROC), which followed my first Boston Marathon in April.
Suffice it to say that my training thus far in 2019 has been the most hard-core that I have experienced. I trained six or seven days a week, mostly running but I also did some biking and other cross training to prepare for my goal race at UROC.
That training workload amounted to my three highest-volume months ever for mileage, topping out at 259.9 miles in March. As of late May, I am closing in on 900 running miles, which is roughly two-thirds of what I usually accomplish in a year.
To say that recovery has been a key for my performance is an understatement. It’s important for me — especially because my diet falls somewhere between vegan and pescatarian — to get enough protein so that my body can repair itself. There were days when I struggled to get enough protein, which caused me to feel tired and depleted.
After trying different options, the best solution I found was PlantFusion.
The plant-based protein powders are great in shakes and smoothies. After an early morning workout, I would have a PlantFusion drink as part of my breakfast or soon thereafter as I commuted to work.
Other times I would create a smoothie bowl featuring a scoop of PlantFusion. And when I am traveling for work, I take an individual packet with me.
Regardless of how I consume PlantFusion, it provides me energy and propels my recovery so I can be at my best all day long.
The facts
Here are five things to know about PlantFusion and how it helps athletes recover more quickly:
PlantFusion products do not contain dairy, soy, gluten, rice, eggs, nuts, fish, or anything artificial. The products are also non-GMO.
The Complete Protein mix includes amino acids that help increase muscle mass while reducing muscle soreness and fatigue. As its name implies, Complete Protein is packed with 21 grams of protein from natural sources like peas, artichokes, organic superfoods and algae.
PlantFusion’s Organic Fermented SuperFoods and Complete Organic Protein are USDA organic certified — only products made with at least 95 percent of organic ingredients receive this designation.
The Complete Meal product line comes in chocolate caramel and creamy vanilla bean. At 200 calories per serving, Complete Meal provides a quick, nutritious meal without any trans fat. Each serving has 20 grams of protein, 15 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of fat, 6 grams of fiber and 80 percent of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin B12 — a great way for vegans and vegetarians to get enough B12 in their diets.
PlantFusion is also sugar free, meaning there are no added sugars in any products. Instead, the company uses natural sweeteners like Lucuma, Luo Han Guo, Yacon Root and Stevia.
PlantFusion Smoothie Bowl
Here is one of my favorite combinations, a PlantFusion Smoothie Bowl. It can be adapted easily enough to fit your preferences for thickness and flavors.
These are the ingredients I use for a smoothie bowl, which I combine with more fruit and granola. It can also be used as a regular smoothie. For a thicker consistency for the bowl, use less almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer).
Ingredients:
1 scoop PlantFusion Complete Protein Chocolate Powder
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
1 small to medium sized apple
½ cup blueberries
½ cup spinach
1 tablespoon Acai powder
Dash of cinnamon
Toppings:
½ cup of granola
5 strawberries
Directions:
Cut up the banana and apple.
Add all the ingredients into a blender and mix until smooth.
Add toppings to taste and enjoy!
