Omnistrap boosts strength training for runners

The Omnistrap attaches easily, offers the ability to do more than 100 exercises and can hold up to 200 pounds.

By Henry Howard

As a runner, I know that strength training is important.

In fact, last year I put together a four-part series on the importance of strength training, which included some useful information from elite ultra runners. Still, it wasn’t enough to propel me to consistently incorporate strength training into my own routine.

But now that I have had the opportunity to try the Nordstick Omnistrap Pro 2, I’ve been able to do strength training more regularly. (Note: I did receive a complimentary Omnistrap in exchange for this review.)

The Omnistrap attaches easily, offers the ability to do more than 100 exercises and can hold up to 200 pounds. Users can attach dumbbells, kettlebells resistance bands and cables from machines, giving it a wide variety of options for workout moves.

It just may be the catalyst for strength training for runners.

Here’s a look at the details of the Omnistrap Pro

The OmniStrap Pro — available in red, white, black and blue — comes with upgraded climbing buckles that hold additional weight.

The device wraps around an ankle and there are no limitations on size of shoes or dumbbell handles. The top looks like ankle weights and the bottom is a long strap. A 2-inch velcro strap wraps around the ankle. The inside is made of neoprene padding.

There are two D-rings, which allow the user to attach a cable or resistance bands. The 1-inch wide strap passes through the buckles and wraps under the shoe to hold a dumbbell, kettlebell, cable, or resistance bands.

How to use the Omnistrap Pro 2

First, wrap the OmniStrap around your ankle securely but not tightly.

Make sure the long strap is around the front of your foot. Place a dumbbell (or other resistance object) under your foot and step on the handle, making sure the long strap is underneath.

Grab the strap from in front of your shoe and place it on top of the foot. Pull down the straps on both sides until the dumbbell fits tightly under your foot.

You can also attach it to cable machines and perform exercises like leg extensions, leg curls, hip extension, hip flexion and knee raises.
