What's better than running and chocolate?

Make mine a double. That is double chocolate.

At least that’s what it feels like. Roughly three months after I run the Hot Chocolate 15K in St. Louis, I will do the same distance closer to home — and work — in Indianapolis on March 24.

As I mentioned, this race is close to where I work. Actually, I will likely see my office window from the start and/or finish area. While the course route has not been released yet, the website does indicate the race will take place at American Legion Mall — adjacent to where I work at the national headquarters of The American Legion, the country’s largest veterans service organization.

I have already persuaded two co-workers to join me, one for the 5K and one for the 15K. I am also working on at least two others to join the race.

So why do a Hot Chocolate race? I detailed my top reasons for doing the St. Louis one in a previous blog post. In addition to the chocolate, there are other cool swag items including a warm technical pullover suitable for running in cool weather.

And, after the race, all participants can download free race photos of themselves.

The Hot Chocolate series will turn 10 years old in 2018. In its decade-long existence, 200,000 runners have discovered the joyous combination of running and chocolate. If you haven’t already experienced a Hot Chocolate race, Indianapolis would be a great one to do.

Hope to see you at the expo, on the course or living it up at the post-race party. Speaking of, that’s where the chocolate really comes in to play.

At the post-race party, runners are treated to music, a family-friendly kid zone (complete with bounce houses and games), and finisher’s mugs filled with hot chocolate, chocolate fondue and tasty dippable treats!
